Domain Flipping. Buy and Sell Domain Names Like Real Estate.
Is there such a thing as an evergreen market – one that is there, well virtually forever? Well domain names will be, at least as long as there is energy to light a bulb and power internet servers. It seems domain names are virtually limitless. According to my research, there are around 136 million domain names registered across the .com, .org, .net etc categories, with over 171,000 domain names transferred in a single day. That’s excluding all the country specific domain names like .co.uk, there were at least 7 million of these back in 2008, so that number will have exploded, no doubt. Fascinating market, there must be a way of making money here.
Thinking about those 171,000 domain names transferred today alone, there has to be a value or transaction attached to most of them; the great thing about a domain name is that as soon as it’s registered, an asset value is crystalised, available to be grown in value…the most ever paid for a domain name was a .com name, with the last three letters of the county of esSEX – $14m…nice, I’d be happy to pay capital gains tax on that.

Some interesting facts about domain names:
- legally a domain name cannot be longer than 63 characters;
- Google has the shortest domain name as the letter “g” with a “cn” suffix to target China;
- registering laws today state that a domain name must be a minimum of three characters, the bad news is that all 50,000 are taken, so are only available for resale….no doubt with a big price tag;
- the first domain name was registered on 15th March 1985, and is still used today;
- all male names are registered, although ladies may have a little more luck for more unusual names. Right, back to the money trail…!
There is a way to make money online from buying and selling domain names, it’s called Domain Flipping, but there is a disciplined methodology and approach that should be taken to maximise this domain flipping opportunity. It’s a huge market, and as quality domain names become a rarer commodity, so the value of them must increase, and the benefits from domain flipping increase too.
I have found a fascinating domain flipping coaching course with great insight into this money making opportunity, with a step by step guide to the market, how to research it and how to set up a business to buy and sell domain names for profit through auctions and marketplaces. It’s an eye-opening education just to read about the domain flipping market, let alone exploit it. Powerful stuff. Visit Domain Flipping Secrets to get the inside track.
I have gone through every aspect of the domain flipping course and I will be posting an in depth review of my experience, and how I get on with my own domain flipping activities. The domain flipping course does begin from the ground up, so if like me, you have existing domain names to sell, you may need to adapt your initial approach slightly. However, if you are starting domain flipping from scratch, the Domain Flipping programme tells you step by step what to do and what to avoid.
DOMAIN FLIPPING BIG TIP NUMBER ONE – watch out for the scam!
I probably saved my initial investment in the domain flipping course programme with just this one piece of advice. There is a short video on the domain name assessment scam, where I was warned about receiving an email from an interested party in my domain name.
I got such an email about a week into my domain flipping activities. I immediately thought “Yes! Kerching!”, until I remembered the scam video in the domain flipping course. I was warned that the second email would invite me to have my domain name assessed, and the contact would recommend their own domain assessment site, and subsequently not buy the domain, with me having spent hundreds of dollars for nothing. Great advice to a newbie like me, so I now know what to watch out for when domain flipping. Look out for my in depth review to be posted shortly, thanks!
If you are completely new to domain flipping and have no domains to start off with, then the Domain Flipping course is ideal for you to start as you mean to go on. There are three different tiers of selling, through auctions, marketplaces and premium listings. The Domain Flipping course walks you through every step. It will even give you an insight into how to pick up dropped domain names that might just turn out to be worth a fortune!
As I had a number of domains already which I had picked up over the last few years, I was ready to start domain flipping straight away. I have over 50 listed for sale, and more in the pipeline.
Something else you may be interested in is Domain parking. This is simply a process of monetizing your domain name with advertisements, there are so many parking sites, some of them can only accept you if you have a certain number of names, but the best is to leverage Afternic. All you need do is buy a good domain name that is related to the niche you are targeting and then re-direct it to the parking company name server. after this you can now add your advertisements to your domain name. Some parking companies are better than others because you can use them to park your domain name and it will look like a website.
After buying these names, you want to flip or park them, you will need to increase the value so it can sell well. You can create blogs and include your domain names in your content, by referring your visitors to them for more information. Also you will be requested to provide some keywords when parking them or use the default keywords; research high paying keywords and use them. If you really want to make good money in this business you should have more than 20 parked domain names. To get more visits you can use email marketing, auto responders and search engine submissions.
